I am a mom with 2 boys, ages 4 and 6, who are both autistic. Sam is going to be 7 next month and Noah is 4 1/2. Both boys were diagnosed at 20 months and fall on the severe side of the autism spectrum. A family newspaper here in Baltimore, Maryland recently did a story about our family at Baltimore's Child, page 24.
This is Hannah and she is 6 years old. She was diagnosed this year with high functioning aspergers with strong OCD tendancies. Her faveroite subject is "creatures" (bugs of any sort), and loves to call anything she captures 'Gahlia'. She loves to give people cuddles.
Ryan is 4 and was diagnosed with PDD about a year ago. He's hilarious. He loves letters and numbers, Curious George books, animals, and lots of tickling. He's full of love, and has been known to kiss in his sleep.
Martin (age 5) on the right was diagnosed with PDD-NOS two years ago. His more prominent symptoms were very significant language development delay and also significant social delay. In short, at 3yo he talked like an 18 month old, comprehended less. He threw lots of fits, many related to his difficulty understanding what was going on. He continues to have significant behaviour and speech issues but has made amazing (to us) progress. In this picture he is playing with his 18month old typically developing sister.
This is my son Luc who is a seven year old Aspie who loves WWII and WWI. He wants army men for Christmas. This is also my Daughter, Maddy a 4 1/2 year old Autie who also has Hyperlexia and loves Ni Hao Kai Lan. I was diagnosed with Asperger's soon after my daughter when she was 2 1/2. She was initially diagnosed with low to moderate ASD, she is now considered high functioning due to her amazing onset of speech thanks to all the intensive ABA therapy and early intervention.
Rufus is 10 years old, diagnosed with autism six years ago, and is currently in 5th grade in a full inclusion setting in a small elementary school in Baltimore. He has some significant challenges in communication and behaviors, but he is a generally happy boy with lots of smiles. While talking is difficult for Rufus, music (on an electronic keyboard), drawing (paper or computer) and surfing the web are activities that he excels at. He's also picking up skills in his second season on the Special Hockey team, The Baltimore Saints. While there are challenges in raising an autistic child there are unique joys that I would never trade away.
We knew something wasn't right since Isaiah was 2, but didn't get a formal diagnosis until he was 4, after fighting tooth and nail w/ his pediatrition. He was moderate functioning until the last year when we started him on biomed, he is now high functioning! He is very sweet and loving and wants to be a principal when he grows up.
I'm a wife, mother, artist, writer, blogger, and singer. I was diagnosed with Asperger's in November of 2008, and SPD/dyspraxia in January of 2009,when I was 50. I published my first book in 2007, and I'm hard at work on another.
This is Nolan. He was diagnosed just after his 2nd birthday in 2007. He's now four, and is such a smart little guy (well, he's actually a BIG guy --- almost 70 pounds). He loves to smile and get squeezes, and is surprisingly affectionate. Don't those cheeks look juicy?
Jonathan was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when he was three and a half years old. He's so sweet, funny, creative and insightful, which is a good thing. Because sometimes he can be so rigid and hard to deal with. He loves computers, playing chess and drawing his own comic book character "Purple Man."
This is a picture of me and my son, Hayden. Hayden has mild autism and was diagnosed in 2006. I am a very busy woman taking care of him, his biomedical treatment, researching autism, blogging, writing a book, working with an agent, and taking care of the rest of my family. Check out my blog sometime.
This is Bobby; he is 19 and autistic. He also had a stroke at the age of 9. He has made tremendous strides from being almost entirely nonverbal to being very social at the day center he goes to for special needs folks. Here he is talking to both his girlfriend and best friend, trying to manage two conversations at once. He also has two younger sisters, both of whom are on the spectrum, as well. They have never been silent, so perhaps they have been rubbing off on him.

Zak is 10 and a great little bloke. Autism/epilepsy/verbal dyspraxia/global develpomental delay/motor skills issues etc do not define him, it is just a part of who he is. He is the little boy who likes pokemon, playing the playstation, guru of finding stuff on you tube, man of few words, loved and treasured youngest child and brother of two adoring older sisters!!

He loves anything cat related, Thomas the Tank and playing video games. He was born on Valentine's day and has a lot of love to give. With the right supports, he can accomplish a lot for a little guy.
My son John was diagnosed at age 2 with "Severe infantile Autism" He was non-verbal till around six. This inspiring photo is of him graduating from high school, which we were told would never happen. He is 24 now...he drives, he works, he gives speeches about Autism.
Jackson is 4 years old and he was born with Autsim. He cannot hold a conversation with anyone, but as you can see by his beautiful face, no words are necessary.
Rio is 10 years old and has asd with moderate learning difficulties. He is very bright and has a brilliant sense of humour. His favourite subjects at school are maths, cookery and art. Finley is 9 years with asd and more severe learning difficulties. He is very cheeky and always up to something! When on good form he is very funny and loving. Both of them keep me on my toes
